Fly Without Fear

How “Fly Without Fear” Works

What do we cover in “Fly Without Fear”? Our debilitating fears are both rational and irrational, or psychological. That is, there are rational concerns that need to be addressed, but there are also psychological problems, such as phobias, that come into play. Our courses address both the rational and psychological aspects of aviophobia.

On the rational side:  We explain how planes fly, how planes are built and tested, all the noises you hear and sensations you feel when flying, what happens when planes experience air turbulence, how many different safety systems enable a plane to fly you to and from your destination safely.

  • We bring a senior pilot into our class to explain flight safety and answer your questions.
  • We take you onto a plane so you can familiarize yourself with the routine aspects of flying.
  • We take you into the secure side of the airport so you can familiarize yourself with what you can expect at both ends of your flight.[1]

All this is designed to give you full trust in the technical side of flying, which relates to the rational side of the brain. That’s all vital, but it’s only one half of the problem.

On the psychological side:  The other half, the psychological side, is equally important. This is where we examine our phobias, discussing:

  • What are the various kinds of fear that make flying difficult
  • How common they are and that they’re no sign of either weakness or stupidity
  • Where they originate
  • How they work
  • What can intensify them

We also give you cutting-edge psychological techniques to enable you to control your irrational thoughts and remain calm when flying.

By addressing both sides of your aviophobia—rational and psychological—we ensure that you have everything you need to understand why flying is so safe and manage your anxiety in a manner that works for thousands of anxious fliers just like you. With this mindset and the relevant techniques, you too will be able to fly wherever you wish.

Next course:  Course I will be offered in mid-July, 2026

[1] We had planned to add a flight simulation session to our course, that plan has changed as the main idea behind doing it was to include the motions you experience when flying. Unfortunately, the flight simulator at YVR doesn’t do motions. So it doesn’t serve our purpose.
